American Mahjong Sets

American mahjong is played with 152 tiles, including 8 jokers and 8 flowers. Many sets include extra tiles, such as blanks and spare jokers, which is why you will see 160 and 166 tile sets. A set without jokers is made for a different game.

Acrylic or melamine?

Acrylic sets are lighter and come in many colors and layered designs. Melamine tiles have a heavier, classic feel. Engraved tiles keep their markings longer than printed ones.

Full size or travel?

Travel and mini sets use smaller tiles and a compact case, so they are easy to carry. For a full table, check whether the set includes racks, pushers, dice and a case, or add racks and a mat separately. Looking for color? See our pink mahjong sets.
